Maria KeaneFor coach Jesse Marsch from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, the opening opponent FSV Mainz 05 is a blank slate after the corona outbreak and the quarantine of a total of eleven players. “Our preparation was geared towards the normal team,” said the American before the duel on Sunday (3:30 pm live on DAZN): “We hope that we will get more information.”
Julian Nagelsmann’s successor wants to focus primarily on his own team at his Bundesliga premiere. “The important thing is that we play our game,” said the 47-year-old: “If you think too much in this situation about the possibilities your opponent has, then you no longer have the right concentration.”
Either way, he will not underestimate Mainz, especially since Marsch 05 coach Bo Svensson attested an outstanding job in the second half of the previous season. “I was always a fan of Mainz at that time – but not now,” he said with a smile.
