Maria KeaneStriker Lucas Alario remains Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. The 28-year-old, who had thoughts of emigration, extended his contract with the works club early until June 30, 2024.
His old contract had a term until 2022. Since 2017, the Argentine has been in the service of the Rhinelander.
“Of course we knew beforehand how valuable Lucas is for Bayer 04. But his very good last season aroused the interest of other clubs,” said sports director Rudi Völler. Alario was involved in 19 goals in 33 competitive games last season. Völler: “That’s why we’re very happy that we were able to extend the contract.”
In the four years at Bayer, the South American was successful in 131 competitive games 51 times and prepared 16 goals. “With him and Patrik Schick as central attackers, we are well positioned for our ambitious goals,” emphasized sports director Simon Rolfes.
Alario himself added: “The club is very professional and we want to achieve a lot together. We have a really good team for that. We want to attack in all three competitions in the coming season.”
