Maria KeaneThe former Bayern professionals Lothar Matthäus, Philipp Lahm and Claudio Pizarro have remembered the deceased Gerd Müller in the Dortmund Football Museum. On the flower arrangement in front of the original jersey from the 1974 World Cup final, the trio remembered the legendary center forward in conversation with museum director Manuel Neukirchner and paid tribute to his outstanding career.
“It was a very special moment to stand together with Lothar Matthäus, Philipp Lahm and Claudio Pizarro in our exhibition in front of the historic jersey that Gerd Müller personally presented to me in 2012. Our museum will keep him an honorable memory,” said Neukirchner .
For Lahm, Müller was “the greatest center forward in our country, if not worldwide, and at the same time a humble, loving person with a great passion for football”.
Müller died on Sunday morning at the age of 75 after a long period of Alzheimer’s disease in a nursing home south of Munich.
