Maria KeaneHertha BSC does not want to sell offensive player Matheus Cunha who is willing to switch to below market value. The negotiations are “very tough, the market is very difficult,” said sports director Fredi Bobic at Sky: “But the price is very clear. In the end, I would not sell it if the offer is below its current market value.”
Hertha is hoping for 30 million euros for the Brazilian Olympic champion, Atletico Madrid is considered the hottest prospect. The Spanish top club should still haggle over the transfer fee and keep an eye on other candidates.
Also because of the transfer negotiations, Cunha was not in the squad for Saturday’s home game against VfL Wolfsburg. “That also plays a role,” admitted Bobic: “This whole combination means that some players are not as focused.”
Hertha coach Pal Dardai, on the other hand, called the banishment to the stands an “educational measure” for Cunha’s listless appearance at the opening defeat in Cologne: “He was recently too much in walk mode.”
