Maria KeaneA confused transfer rumor about BVB player Axel Witsel triggered a clear reaction from Borussia Dortmund’s assistant coach Rene Maric.
The portal Sport Witness had a rumor from Italy via Twitter about Tuttosport according to which Witsel could leave BVB for only five million euros and Aston Villa from the Premier League is showing interest.
“It’s obvious nonsense, I can’t understand how some people pretend it’s not just about producing a headline,” Maric commented on the tweet.
Witsel is one of the top earners at BVB and his contract expires next summer, but he is currently irreplaceable as a passable temporary central defender, as two regular central defensive players in Mats Hummels and Dan-Axel Zagadou are absent.
In addition, Witsel, who tore his Achilles tendon last season but got fit in time for the European Championship and played a good tournament for Belgium, enjoys a high standing with coach Marco Rose.
“If you go out with such an injury at the age of Axel, then play a European Championship and then return from vacation in top shape, then that shows what a professional you are,” said Rose after mid-August about his “new” central defender .
