BVB charity game for flood victims a complete success

A big injection of money, 90 minutes of distraction and the debut of an access: Cup winner Borussia Dortmund has kept its promise of a benefit game for the flood victims in the surrounding area.

Marin Pongracic played for BVB for the first time in the 12-0 (4-0) against two Hagen sixth division clubs in the Ischelandstadion – but the focus was on the good gesture.

“It was extreme, even in Dortmund we felt it with floods,” said Sebastian Kehl, head of the licensed players department, in Sky-Interview before kick-off: “In the evening we were shocked by the pictures, by the suffering of the people. We quickly agreed to help.”

The BVB team symbolically presented the badly hit city of Hagen with a check for 295,000 euros, then it went down to business in front of 5,000 spectators on the pitch: virtually without stars. “It’s a small cutlery from our professional team, we have so many national players,” emphasized Kehl.

Accordingly, Julian Brandt, Marius Wolf and Reinier were the only bigger names next to the defender Pongracic, who had come from VfL Wolfsburg. Pongracic scored to 9-0.

Union Berlin also tested against local regional division SV Lichtenberg 47 on Wednesday and won 2-0 (1-0). The accesses Bastian Oczipka and Kevin Möhwald were used for the first time.
