BVB, News: DFB comeback? Matthew expects Hummels

Record national player Lothar Matthäus still believes in a comeback from BVB defender Mats Hummels. “With his quality, you always have to expect him to come back. And against teams that are low like Hungary in the last tournament, you could use his build-up qualities,” wrote Matthäus in his sky-Column.

However, he does not see Hummel’s “as of now” in the team. “Mats Hummels is currently a bit behind,” analyzed the 61-year-old. In his eyes, national coach Hansi Flick needs players who have a certain speed for his high pressing. “Speed isn’t Mats’ greatest strength anymore and unfortunately he was injured for a long time. Still, I wouldn’t want to write him off completely,” added Matthäus.

Flick had recently renounced Hummels, but for fitness reasons after injuries and a corona infection. Hummels is also not part of the squad for the international matches against Israel (2-0) and the Netherlands on Tuesday (8.45 p.m. in LIVETICKER). The 33-year-old played his last international match in the round of 16 at the European Championship last year against England.

Ex-national player Mario Basler, on the other hand, sees little chance of Hummels returning to the DFB team. I’m a long way from getting him back. I think Mats’ time is over internationally,” said the ex-Bayern star double pass at sports1. “I think you shouldn’t be bothered about him coming back. You’ve decided that he won’t be there anymore.”

BVB, News: Haaland refrains from interviews

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland muzzled himself during his time with the Norwegian national team. “He has told me that he would like to be shielded during these internationals,” said Norway coach Stale Solbakken Eurosport. Haaland is therefore currently not available for interviews with the Norwegian press.

The criticism of it is unfair, said Solbakken. “Right now, with Mbappe, he’s the most sought-after player in the world. He’s the one everyone will be writing about when it comes to his next steps,” added the former 1. FC Köln coach.

Speculations about Haaland’s future have been making the headlines for weeks. The 21-year-old is still under contract with BVB until 2024, but can leave Dortmund this summer with an exit clause of 75 million euros. Manchester City and Real Madrid are the main possible targets.

BVB, News: Home game against Leipzig sold out
