Maria KeaneIn his hometown of Bryne, Erling Haaland is forever cheering in black and yellow: a larger-than-life work of art unveiled on the facade of a dairy on Monday afternoon shows the departing Dortmunder celebrating one of his many goals in a BVB jersey with his fists raised.
The creator of the mural is the anonymous street artist “Pöbel”, who is well-known beyond Norway.
“The artwork isn’t just for football fans,” he said, “I hope it inspires people that if you work hard, you can achieve your dreams.” For Haaland, that was just the dream of professional football. The 21-year-old is moving to Manchester City for the new season.
“Mob” doesn’t see the fact that he will continue to cheer in Bryne in Borussia dress as a problem. “That’s Erling’s story, the color of the shirt doesn’t matter,” he said. Especially since just a stone’s throw away Papa Alf-Inge Haaland is cheering from a smaller concrete wall – in the shirt of his former club Manchester City.
