Fans dissatisfied with the commitment of the DFB and the DFL against homophobia

The fans in Germany consider the commitment of the German Football Association (DFB) and the German Football League (DFL) against homophobia to be insufficient. This is from a study by the Votingapp FanQ out, which was carried out together with the lesbian and gay association.

Over 2300 fans divided into two groups took part in the study. According to this, 61.8 percent of the supporters who counted themselves among the supporters of the LGBTQIA+ movement were dissatisfied with the commitment of the DFB and 64.4 percent with that of the DFL.

In the group that did not count themselves among the supporters, 56.9 percent of those surveyed saw insufficient activities at the DFB and 53.7 percent insufficient involvement with the DFL.

While a large part of the fan scene saw deficits in the use of the association and the league, the perception of homophobic incidents in the two groups differed greatly.

For example, 47.1 percent of the supporters said they had witnessed homophobic incidents in amateur football, compared to 18 percent of non-supporters.

In professional football, 54.2 percent of supporters have seen such an incident, compared to only 18.9 percent of non-supporters.

In addition, 91.3 percent of the supporters group saw a greater prevalence of homophobic incidents in men’s football, compared to 48.5 percent of the non-supporters. Only 1.6 percent of supporters and 9.1 percent of non-supporters thought women’s football was more affected.
