Julian Nagelsmann wants to slow down Joshua Kimmich

Julian Nagelsmann made it clear about Michael Cuisance at the press conference before FC Bayern Munich’s home game on the 2nd Bundesliga matchday against 1. FC Köln (Sun., 5.30 p.m. in LIVETICKER).

“The preparation was so-so,” said Nagelsmann when asked by SPOX and Goal: “He has to become more stable now in order to play a more important role.” Behind Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich and Corentin Tolisso, who recently recovered from a corona infection, Cuisance is currently lagging behind in the Bayern midfield.

All three players are “much further in this position,” said Nagelsmann. The 22-year-old Frenchman now has to “step on the gas” in order not to lose the connection for good. Nagelsmann emphasized that Cuisance also had “very good moments” in preparation, but then had situations “that were not so good” again “like against Naples”.

“I don’t judge him,” said the new Bayern coach, who wanted to incorporate the difficult situation of Cuisance at Bayern and also during his loan year at Olympique Marseille into his final assessment of the central midfielder.

Cuisance, who moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Säbener Strasse in a much-discussed transfer for eight million euros in the summer of 2019, has so far barely been able to play a prominent role in the German record champions. So far, the 25-year-old has only made eleven competitive appearances in the Bayern jersey (1 goal, 1 assist).

Cuisance future? “Of course he can stay in the squad”

Last season, Cuisance was on loan in Marseille, where he made 30 games and made a good impression, especially in the early stages of the season, but was even eliminated at the end of the season.

According to a report by France Football the new coach Jorge Sampaoli was annoyed about the lack of commitment from Cuisance and described him as “too selfish” during training. The behavior annoyed the coaching staff and teammates.

Marseille let the purchase option for Cuisance expire, so the 22-year-old returned to Bayern in the summer. There the rumors last lingered that Cuisance was one of the sales candidates and had no future in the club. However, Nagelsmann did not want to comment directly on this. “Of course he can stay in the squad. I’m the wrong person to talk to about transfer issues,” he said.
