FC Bayern Munich: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge teases Hummels and Reus

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge spiced up the freshly inflamed championship duel between his FC Bayern and the challenger Borussia Dortmund with a few swipes. The former chief executive of the German soccer record champions teased in the broadcast “Sky90” on Sunday in the direction of BVB captain Marco Reus and defense chief Mats Hummels and advised Bayern against a possible commitment from Erling Haaland.

Reus decided against Munich and for BVB in 2012, said Rummenigge and said: “He didn’t win many titles there.” The former Bayern professional Hummels “meanwhile gives the impression that he has problems with the speed,” said Rummenigge, there are good reasons why the defender is currently not considered in the German national team.

On the subject of Haaland, the 66-year-old said: “Bayern Munich have Robert Lewandowski – that is above Haaland. You can’t have both in one team, that would be crazy because one would always have to sit on the bench.” He could “only make one recommendation: hold Robert!”

But he learned from BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke that “he will put everything in the balance, that Haaland will play in Dortmund for at least another year”. The currently injured striker’s contract runs until 2024.

Although Dortmund moved up to one point on the record champions after Bayern’s mistake in Augsburg (1: 2), Rummenigge emphasized: “Bayern Munich will – sorry if I say that now – become German champions again this season.” The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann will “not allow themselves a bad game this season”. Dortmund on December 4th will be “a severe test”, but: “The team is on fire in these games.”

Rummenigge also spoke about Joshua Kimmich’s vaccination status and the departure of David Alaba.
