Maria KeaneAs announced, the German record champions Bayern Munich donated one million euros for people in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate whose existence is threatened as a result of the flood disaster at the beginning of July.
On Tuesday, President Herbert Hainer and CEO Oliver Kahn presented symbolic checks worth 500,000 euros each. The club has already donated 100,000 euros to flood victims in Bavaria through FC Bayern Hilfe eV.
“When such a great need arises, our society has to stand together and provide help,” said Hainer. “The pictures (…) shocked us all at FC Bayern. It was important to us to provide help to the people affected quickly and unbureaucratically,” added Kahn.
In consultation with both state governments, FC Bayern ensured that the financial support could be distributed directly to households in need. No date has yet been set for the planned flood charity game between Schalke and Bayern in Gelsenkirchen.
