We look back on March 8, 2020. On the 25th matchday of the 2019/20 season, FC Bayern Munich wins 2-0 against FC Augsburg. It wasn’t really anything special, but it was a special game. It was the last home game to date that FC Bayern played in front of 75,000 spectators in the sold-out Allianz Arena.
After that, the global corona pandemic brought gaming operations to a standstill, after which there were only ghost games at first. It was played for the first time in front of spectators in the Allianz Arena at the European Championship this year. 14,500 spectators were admitted to the games. FC Bayern was allowed to play the preparatory games for the 2021/22 season in front of up to 20,000 spectators.
Allianz Arena: How many spectators are allowed in the stadium for Bayern’s home games?
Today, Sunday, August 22nd, after two away games in the Bundesliga and in the Supercup in the still young season, FC Bayern will be competing in the Allianz Arena for the first time. The game against 1. FC Köln starts at 5.30 p.m.
In Germany, up to 25,000 spectators are currently allowed to take part in major sporting events, but no more than half of the total capacity. From an incidence that is stable above 35, however, further restrictions apply.
FC Bayern is allowed to let 20,000 spectators into the Allianz Arena today for the game against Cologne. The Free State of Bavaria is taking a somewhat stricter path and only allows 20,000 spectators at major sporting events. Attending the game is only possible with the so-called 3G proof (proof of completely vaccinated, recovered or tested people).
For the next home game against Hertha BSC on August 28, 25,000 spectators may be allowed into the Allianz Arena. According to information from Antenna Bavaria the Free State should relax the access restrictions to major events. The upper limit should be 25,000 spectators. When the decision is to be made has not yet been determined.
