Lewandowski Player of the Season, Bellingham’s Discovery

FC Bayern: Lewandowski is committed to FCB

Goalscorer Robert Lewandowski (33) from FC Bayern Munich was voted last season’s player by his professional colleagues in the VDV players’ union and was awarded the silver shoe. In 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2020, the professional colleagues voted for the Pole as the best player in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski had beaten Gerd Müller’s record from the 1971/72 season (40) with 41 goals last season. When it came to the award for VDV player of the 2020/2021 season, Erling Haaland came in second behind Lewandowski.

To discover the season, the Association of Contract Footballers chose Dortmund’s Jew Bellingham (18). As VDV newcomers, the Englishman Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) and Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) relegated to the other ranks.

Seven Bayern players formed the corset of the season’s team. – The eleven of the 2020/21 season: Manuel Neuer – Alphonso Davies (both Bayern Munich), Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig, now Bayern, Munich), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), David Alaba (Bayern Munich – now Real Madrid) – Filip Kostic (Eintracht Frankfurt), Joshua Kimmich, Thomas Müller, Leon Goretzka (all Bayern Munich – Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich).

All players in the Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga, 3rd league and regional leagues as well as the other members of the players’ union were eligible to vote.
