Lewandowski scores for the seventh time in a row

At the start of the 59th Bundesliga season, goalscorer Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern scored a goal on matchday 1 for the seventh season in a row. No other player in Bundesliga history scored in so many consecutive seasons.

In the opening game at Borussia Mönchengladbach (1: 1), the 32-year-old Pole scored the goal to make it 1: 1 in the 42nd minute. Previously, Alassane Plea (10th) was the first Gladbach player since 1975 to score the first goal of the season of a season.

Most consecutive seasons with goals on matchday 1:

  • 7 in a row: Robert Lewandowski (2015/16 to 2021/22)
  • 4 in a row: Stefan Kießling and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (both 2012/13 to 2015/16)
  • 3 in a row: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2015/16 to 2017/18), Patrick Helmes (2006/07 to 2008/09), Miroslav Klose (2005/06 to 2007/08), Marcus Feinbier (1999/2000 to 2001 / 02), Christian Schreier (1986/87 to 1988/89) Klaus Allofs (1983/84 to 1985/86), Klaus Fischer and Jupp Heynckes (both 1974/75 to 76/77)
