As the wolves announced on Sunday, the 25-year-old will receive a four-year contract. Waldschmidt comes from the Portuguese record champions Benfica Lisbon, the transfer fee is twelve million euros, according to the Portuguese.
“He’s not only a good fit for our team in terms of sport, but also because of his character. His development is far from over, and we are therefore looking forward to tackling our goals with him,” said VfL Sports Director Marcel Schäfer.
The top scorer of the U21 European Championship 2019 already played in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt, Hamburger SV and SC Freiburg before venturing to Portugal last year, where he scored nine goals in 27 league games.
“I’m very happy to be back in the Bundesliga. I really wanted to. I am convinced of the way the club is going, the philosophy and ambitions of VfL match my ideas one hundred percent,” said the seven-time international.
