Maria KeaneAfter the death of the football legend Gerd Müller, his hometown Nördlingen will hold a public commemoration on Friday. As the Bavarian city announced on Tuesday, the celebration will take place at 6 p.m. in the Stadtsaal Klösterle.
“We mourn the loss of a great son in our city, who has always been the ambassador of his hometown Nördlingen at his appearances at home and abroad,” said Mayor David Wittner.
“In addition to invited guests, interested fellow citizens are also invited to take part in the hour of mourning in the Klösterle,” said the city’s announcement. A condolence book will also be on display. Because of the distance and hygiene regulations due to the corona pandemic, there is only a limited number of seats.
Müller was born on November 3, 1945 in Nördlingen and moved from TSV Nördlingen to FC Bayern in 1964. There, the “bomber of the nation” shaped an era as a scorer. Müller died on Sunday morning at the age of 75 after a long period of Alzheimer’s disease in a nursing home south of Munich.
