RB Leipzig has achieved a breakthrough in advertising for top talent Ilaix Moriba (18) from FC Barcelona. According to information from SPOX and Goal, the Saxons and the teenager agree on transfers this summer. Barcelona are demanding a € 20 million transfer fee for the central midfielder.
In addition to RB, the English top club Tottenham Hotspur also tried to get Moriba in the past few days. However, the central midfielder decided to move to Leipzig. In a transfer there, he should take the place of Marcel Sabitzer. The Austrian is, according to information from SPOX and Goal shortly before an engagement with FC Bayern.
Moriba, Spanish youth international, is considered a great talent. Most recently there had been an open dispute between him and Barcelona’s club management. Moriba’s contract expires in 2022, and Barca wanted to extend it, but allegedly had to deal with exorbitant demands from the players.
Accordingly, Moriba demanded a doubling of his salary, although he should already earn much more than the other players in his age group in the club. President Joan Laporta reacted with incomprehension and made a clear message to Moriba, his father and the consulting agency ROGON. “If he does not want to extend, he has other options,” he clarified: “If you want to leave, you can do so – under certain conditions, of course.”
RB Leipzig: Ilaix Moriba had trouble at Barca
Most recently, Moriba was banned from Barca’s professional team and transferred back to the B team. According to Laporta, the club should not only set an example because of the troubled finances, but also with a view to the other talents from La Masia. “He still has one year of contract and doesn’t want to accept the club’s terms. We don’t accept that, we have to send a message to the youth team,” said Laporta.
Moriba made his debut in the professional team at the beginning of the year and has since played 18 competitive games for Blaugrana.
