Reluctance to protest in Qatar? BVB star has an appointment with the national coach

Erling Haaland has an appointment with his boss because of his alleged reluctance during the protests of the Norwegian national team against World Cup hosts Qatar. “I’ll talk to Erling about it,” national coach Stale Solbakken told the newspaper Verdens gang.

When asked whether it was not unfortunate that the young star of all people was shy about this important topic, Solbakken replied: “That’s exactly what I have to talk to him about.”

The Norwegian selection has been raising awareness of the human rights situation in the desert state with various campaigns since March. Haaland also wore t-shirts with corresponding messages before the World Cup qualification games. Other national teams like the German followed suit.

“He took part in everything,” emphasized Solbakken, former 1. FC Köln coach. Various media, however, see Haaland’s role critically. However, according to Solbakken, during the internal discussions on Qatar in the spring, there was “a great deal of agreement” among his players, “and that is still the case”.

The trainer tries to take the edge off the subject. “We have always emphasized, and I discussed it with Erling and others, that there is a limit. Not just for him. We should also play football,” he said.
