BVB-Boss Hans-Joachim Watzke rückt Gewinn der Europa League in den Fokus

The professionals from Borussia Dortmund should according to a report of the Ruhr news renounce their salary again. However, BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke did not confirm the plan.

“So far there has not been a conversation in this direction,” said Watzke on Wednesday.

Due to the corona pandemic, there are again ghost games in the new year. BVB lost around four million euros per home game in an empty stadium. According to Ruhr news the Dortmund management had assumed that the capacity utilization would largely be full from the second half of the year, so only a minus of ten to 15 million euros had been budgeted for the financial year.

The Dortmund players around captain Marco Reus and striker Erling Haaland had already waived part of their salary twice. In the preseason, the DFB Cup winner saved 8.25 million euros, in the 2019/20 season it was five million euros. Watzke reported this at the general meeting of Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA at the beginning of December.

BVB had posted a loss of 72 million euros in the 2020/21 financial year due to the pandemic.
