Regarded as the big winner at the start of the Bayern season: Josip Stanisic.

Josip Stanisic from FC Bayern Munich will not appear for the German national team for the time being. The right-back, who became a regular in the absence of the injured Benjamin Pavard, has now been appointed to the Croatian U21 national team for the first time.

“I am very happy about my appointment to the Croatian U21 national team. I am honored to be able to wear Croatia’s jersey”, Stanisic is quoted in a corresponding statement from the Croatian association.

In November 2018, the 21-year-old had completed two U19 international matches for the DFB. A deployment for the German senior national team is currently not completely ruled out despite the association change. Although Stanisic will probably make his debut for Croatia in September against Azerbaijan and Finland, he will be able to change associations again until his first international match.

Stanisic was born in Munich and moved to the youth division of FC Bayern in 2017. He is one of the big winners of the record champions’ bumpy pre-season. Because Benjamin Pavard is currently out with an ankle injury until the international break, Stanisic is on the right under coach Julian Nagelsmann. There he is given preference over Bouna Sarr, for whom Bayern slipped eight million euros last autumn.

Bayern coach Nagelsmann praises Stanisic

“I was very satisfied with Stani, he did very well,” said Nagelsmann after the right-back’s impressive performance at the season opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach (1: 1), although he recently indicated that the 21-year-old would be after the Pavard -Return will probably move back into the second link for the time being.

“You have to consider: It was only his third game in professional football. It’s always a bit of a ‘gamble’ for someone like him, you have to plan periods of weakness with young players, but at FC Bayern you don’t have any as a player or as a coach Time to play two or three games badly, “said Nagelsmann:” The question is: If Stani has a phase of weakness and falls into a hole and Benjamin comes back, is it still fair to FC Bayern’s claim to let Stani play or say one that one gets through one or the other period of weakness? “
