Josip Stanisic from FC Bayern Munich will not appear for the German national team for the time being. The right-back, who became a regular in the absence of the injured Benjamin Pavard, has now been appointed to the Croatian U21 national team for the first time.
“I am very happy about my appointment to the Croatian U21 national team. I am honored to be able to wear Croatia’s jersey”, Stanisic is quoted in a corresponding statement from the Croatian association.
In November 2018, the 21-year-old had completed two U19 international matches for the DFB. A deployment for the German senior national team is currently not completely ruled out despite the association change. Although Stanisic will probably make his debut for Croatia in September against Azerbaijan and Finland, he will be able to change associations again until his first international match.
Stanisic was born in Munich and moved to the youth division of FC Bayern in 2017. He is one of the big winners of the record champions’ bumpy pre-season. Because Benjamin Pavard is currently out with an ankle injury until the international break, Stanisic is on the right under coach Julian Nagelsmann.
