Uli Hoeneß sees “terrible development” because of Nagelsmann criticism

The right man for the job? Julian Nagelsmann is the most expensive coach of all time.

Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß sees Julian Nagelsmann as “just the right” Bayern coach “for the present day”. The 69-year-old emphasized this in an interview with RTL / ntv.

“We have to build something new, we need an alternative concept to these hundreds of millions that the sheikh clubs and oligarchs can spend,” Hoeneß justified his view. Nagelsmann is perfectly suited for this because he “has goals, has not yet won anything, creates a spirit of optimism and, above all, can work with young people”.

Precisely because of this, Hoeneß was furious about the critical voices that had given Nagelsmann after the weak test match results in the complicated preparation of Bayern with many injured players and the absence of many EM drivers.

“I found it totally unfair to make him a loser just because we lost with a C-Team and A-Youth. It’s a terrible development in our society that only the result counts and nobody looks behind it anymore what actually is there. Had we played with the best team and lost the games, that would have been okay, “said Hoeneß.

Nagelsmann, whom Bayern brought from Leipzig for a record coaching sum of up to 25 million euros before the season and signed a five-year contract, had played four test matches with a Bayern rump squad and won none of them. The season opener was largely successful for the record champions.

Hoeneß reacts snippily to Bayern’s victory against BVB

Against feared opponents Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern struck a draw in a foreign country, and the Munich team won the DFL Supercup in an impressive manner 3-1 against BVB. A result that made Hoeneß “incredibly happy”.

“I can well imagine what would have happened if we had lost. The change of power in German football that you have been dreaming of for ten years. But I think you have to wait a little longer,” said Hoeneß snippily.

Should FCB be at the top of the table at the end of the season that has just started, it would achieve something historic. For Bayern it would be the tenth championship title in a row. No club in Europe’s top 5 leagues has achieved this before them.
