Supercup, location: Why is BVB vs. FC Bayern taking place in Dortmund today?
Since the name change in 2010, the German Supercup has traditionally been held in the stadium of the cup winner or runner-up, if the German champion is also the cup winner at the same time. Although this rule is not stipulated, the Supercup will also be played on Tuesday (August 17th) at 8 p.m. in the cup winners’ stadium.
This year, that is the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, where, after consultation with the regional health authorities, up to 25,000 spectators can be admitted. The specialty at BVB: The black and yellow will let in a maximum of 1,000 fans with negative corona tests, the remaining 24,000 must be able to show either a full vaccination or a recovery.
