By signing Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner got well-known competition at Chelsea FC. Defender Antonio Rüdiger can imagine, however, that the strikers harmonize as a duo.
“Of course the two can play together. That comes Timo, I think, quite right,” said Rüdiger about his two men in front in an interview with the pay TV broadcaster Sky.
Werner is someone, “the space needs, and it is the case that with a striker as big as Lukaku, people fixate a little more on him – and Timo could benefit from it,” explained Rüdiger.
The Champions League winner was only fourth in the previous season in the Premier League. Reinforcements like those by Lukaku are therefore of great value. “Last season the point gap to Manchester City was very high. We are hunters and of course we want to attack and all the players are important,” said the international.
The Blues transferred 115 million euros (club record sum) for the Belgian striker to Inter Milan. Lukaku, who left the Blues for Everton eight years ago, signed a five-year contract until the summer of 2026.
