Jadon Sancho should apparently be used on the defensive

At Manchester United, Jadon Sancho is still looking for his goal threat. Now he could face a more defensive role.

According to The Athletic plays his coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the idea of having Sancho play as a full-back. So far, Sancho has logically only been called up in the Red Devils on the two offensive flanks and as a hanging tip.

Now United is said to be training with Sancho as a right full-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is currently there, but according to those responsible, his performance still has room for improvement.

Manchester United: Sancho as Wan Bissaka alternative?

Most recently, United legend Paul Scholes led against the 23-year-old Wan-Bissaka. “He’s useless with the ball – a brilliant defender, but useless on the offensive as a right-back,” said Scholes.

One thing is certain: On the offensive, Sancho could also prove his skills as a defender, even if he has not yet scored a goal or an assist in 13 league games. In Solskjaer’s new 3-4-2-1 system he would be an alternative against defensive opponents. In all of his competitive games for clubs and national team – there were already more than 200 – he was never set up as a nominal defensive force.

Sancho came to Manchester from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021. The English record champions transferred 85 million euros to BVB for his services. In addition to Sancho, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (from Juventus Turin) and Raphael Varane (from Real Madrid) also moved to Old Trafford.
