It was a major setback for ManUnited in the fight for the Champions League spots. However, Ralf Rangnick’s team had to do without superstar Cristiano Ronaldo at Anfield, who was absent after the death of his newborn son.

Liverpool fans reacted very emotionally to the sad news: in the 7th minute, the supporters applauded to show their support for “CR7” and his partner Georgina Rodriguez. They also sang their famous “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Luis Dias gave the clearly superior Reds the lead in the 5th minute. The strikers Mo Salah (22nd and 85th) and Sadio Mane (68th) ensured clear conditions. “I think they made life easier for us. They gave us the ball in dangerous situations,” Salah analyzed after the game Sky Sports: “We knew that if we defended well, we could score a goal, then the second, then the third.” It was a top performance by the team.

Ralf Rangnick: “Embarrassing, disappointing, maybe even shameful”

Bruno Fernandes was disappointed: “I can’t say much, I can only apologize to the fans. They don’t deserve that we play like this, they deserve a lot more.” He doesn’t believe that “even one player doesn’t give 100 percent”, but stated: “Liverpool are fighting for the title, we’re not fighting for anything.” Still, he’s not giving up the season. “We represent a big club and we have to keep working,” said the Portuguese.

Coach Ralf Rangnick found even clearer words: “It’s embarrassing, it’s disappointing, maybe even shameful. They’re six years ahead of us,” he said after the clear defeat.

United are a game more than three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool are also extending their lead over Manchester City on goal difference.
