"Tottenham need to make an assessment of the club and me"

Coach Antonio Conte has responded to the downward trend at Tottenham Hotspur with cryptic statements. Wednesday’s 1-0 loss at Burnley FC was his side’s fourth defeat in five Premier League games.

“I have to talk to the club. Tottenham have to make an assessment of the club and me. We have to find the best solution. I can’t accept that I’ll keep losing,” said Conte afterwards. “I’m open to any decision because I want to help Tottenham. I’m too honest to close my eyes, just carry on like this and say: ok, my salary is good. I have ambitions.”

Conte added: “Tottenham brought me in to improve the situation. But I’m not good enough to improve it. It’s very frustrating. I try everything but the situation doesn’t change.” The 52-year-old Italian took over from the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo as Tottenham manager in November.

Since then he has won 11 of 21 competitive games, drawing three and losing seven. In the Premier League, Tottenham went nine straight unbeaten runs under Conte before losing at Chelsea, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The emotional 3:2 against leaders Manchester City at the weekend was followed by the 0:1 in Burnley. Ben Mee scored in the 71st minute.

Tottenham are currently eighth in the Premier League. The team has already been eliminated from the Conference League and the League Cup. In the FA Cup Round of 16 on March 1st, they face Middlesbrough FC.
