Xherdan Shaqiri raves about Lazio and coach Maurizio Sarri

Xherdan Shaqiri is about to jump at Liverpool FC.

Former Bayern player Xherdan Shaqiri wants to leave Liverpool this summer and could very well imagine playing for Lazio in the future. Shaqiri is particularly admired by Lazios new coach Maurizio Sarri.

“I’ve been following Lazio for a few years, they are a top team. Generally I prefer attacking football and Sarri does that. It would be fascinating,” Shaqiri told dem Corriere dello Sport. In addition, he feels “honored” when Lazio sports director Igli Tare – as reported – respects his achievements, said the Swiss international.

According to information from SPOX and goal Besides Lazio, SSC Napoli is also vying for Shaqiri. There is also interest from the Spanish clubs Sevilla FC and the Europa League winner Villarreal FC. Liverpool are reportedly hoping for a transfer fee of around 17 million euros.

Shaqiri said he had long since made up his mind to turn his back on Liverpool. “At this stage in my career it’s very important to play regularly. But that has not been the case for the past three seasons,” said Shaqiri. Accordingly, he asked the Reds to coach Jürgen Klopp for the release. “You have accepted that and will carefully examine the offers that come in. You will not put any obstacles in my way,” said the 29-year-old.

Shaqiri with an eventful career

Shaqiri has already had an eventful career. In 2012 he moved from FC Basel to FC Bayern, after which he moved on to Inter Milan and Stoke City. He has been playing in Liverpool since 2018. His personal trophy cabinet is full, including winning the Champions League twice, the German championship three times and the Premier League once.

“Fortunately, football has helped me achieve many of my dreams,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to play for big clubs and win a lot of titles.” Often, however, he did not play the important role he had hoped for, so he was not used in both finals in the premier class.

Nevertheless, Shaqiri believes that she can continue to give something to top teams. “I’m only 29 years old, I’ve played in some of the best leagues in Europe and I’d like to continue to be a part of them,” he said. A possible end to my career is still “far away. We’ll see what fate has in store for me,” Shaqiri continued.

Shaqiri attests the Italian Serie A a positive development in the recent past. “The European title proves it, it was a deserved result,” said the offensive player, who was not happy in his few months at Inter Milan in 2015. “Sometimes in football it happens that you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I don’t regret it, every experience brings you further in life,” he said.
