MSV Duisburg has also won its second catch-up game and is now back in contact with the top after the forced Corona break at the start of the season.
The zebras prevailed 1-0 (1-0) against second division relegated VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday evening, with MSV now climbing to fifth with six points.
Captain Moritz Stoppelkamp (41st) used a controversial penalty kick for the decisive goal. In the second half, Osnabrück’s Lukas Gugganig failed with an equally debatable penalty against the strong MSV goalkeeper Leo Weinkauf (62nd), it wasn’t the last chance to equalize: Lukas Kunze just missed (71st), Marc Heider hit the post ( 81st), and Maurice Trapp’s goal did not count because of an offside position (84th).
“We were lucky in a few situations, no question about it,” said MSV coach Pawel Dotschew at MagentaSport: “But it makes a good goalkeeper that he sometimes holds unsustainable balls. Leo Weinkauf did that today.”
Duisburg is now three points behind leader Viktoria Berlin, only one is missing from Borussia Dortmund’s second-placed reserve. The MSV was unable to play the first two point games of the season on the planned date due to quarantine measures. Osnabrück is in the lower midfield of the table with three points from three games.
