Maria KeaneAfter the death of football legend Gerd Müller, the German Football League (DFL) asked the clubs to observe a minute’s silence on the upcoming matchday. However, the association avoided an obligation to make the mourning gesture.
“The DFL recommends a minute’s silence in honor of Gerd Müller for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches on the coming matchday,” the DFL announced on Twitter on Thursday evening.
In addition, “all clubs are free to play with a black ribbon”.
The “bomber of the nation” died last Sunday at the age of 75 after a long period of Alzheimer’s disease in a nursing home south of Munich.
