“Have perhaps the most attractive strikers in the world”

Managing director Hans-Joachim von Borussia Dortmund sees the Bundesliga as being very popular in an international comparison. The league is particularly attractive because of the two top strikers Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.

Watzke reacted calmly to the sometimes sluggish ticket sales at the start of the Bundesliga. “It takes some time. Some are careful. The others have weaned themselves a bit,” Watzke told the newspaper Funke media group.

The maximum possible capacity utilization in corona times was not reached in all stadiums on the first match day. “If you play games like yesterday, then I’m not worried for Borussia Dortmund. If I look at the other figures, it is noticeable that you still have to break through a few walls,” said Watzke on Sunday after the 5th: 2 against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 62-year-old also recalled that the league has lost some draft horses in recent years. “With Hamburg, Bremen and Schalke, of course, we would automatically have larger audience numbers,” said Watzke.

The BVB boss does not doubt the attractiveness of the Bundesliga. “We may have the two most attractive strikers in Europe. Or in the world. The Spaniards would be happy if they had that,” said Watzke, referring to Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.
